We the People of the United States, in order to establish a freer, fairer, and more accountable Republic, to secure the rights, liberty, and dignity of every person, to protect the health, safety, and happiness of the people, to restrain corruption, exploitation, and intentional abuses of power, to ensure that government serves the public good rather than private greed, to preserve justice, domestic tranquility, and democratic self-government, and to provide for the common defense and general welfare, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
